It maintained major popularity in Western Ukraine, and the language was never banned over there.

It is a common language of 1.16 million or 62% of the population. It is a Baltic language and is most closely related to Lithuanian. The Latvian was followed by more rapid development and was advanced. Latvian was introduced in Western print in the mid-16th century.
