The native speakers are 83 million in number and they reside mainly in the states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Telugu is also the official language of West Bengal, Yanam district of Puducherry. This language is spoken by a minority in the states of Punjab, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, and Andaman. It is one of the six most prominent languages in India. Telugu is also popularly known as Andhramu (ఆంధ్రము). Interestingly it is ranked number fourth due to a lot of native speakers. There are three different dialects of Telugu. However, the Coastal dialect is the most prominent that is spoken in Andhra Pradesh. If we talk about the Rayalaseema dialect it is spoken in the state of Telangana.
