Catalan is also spoken in the Pyrénées-Orientales which is the department of France. The language is spoken in further areas in eastern Spain and the eastern strip of Aragon. It is also the commonly spoken language in the Carche area. People who speak Catalan are called Països Catalans. It is a language evolved from Vulgar Latin in the Middle Ages in the eastern Pyrenees.
