This province is located in the Netherlands. East Frisian is spoken in the Saterland west of Oldenburg, Ger.; and North Frisian. The written records are available from the end of the 13th century. However, they are written in Old Frisian and this stage of language ended in the 16th century. The Old Frisian has all the features that distinguish English and Frisian from other languages in Germany. Even though the Frisian language has been the written language for about 300 years.
