The language flourished in the Central Visayas and the western parts of Eastern Visayas. It is spoken in most of Mindanao. Cebuano originated from the island of Cebu. It is now spoken in various Visayan ethnolinguistic groups. The native in Cebuanos speaks the language. It has the largest number of native speakers and is a major language of the Philippines. Cebuano has the largest number of native speakers in the Philippines from the 1950s till the 1980s. Cebuano is spoken in many western parts of Eastern Visayas, and other parts of Palawan and Mindanao. The name Cebuano has been derived from the island of Cebu and is the original locus of the language.
