Slovene is an Indo-European language and it belongs to the Western subgroup of the South Slavic branch. The language is close to the Chakavian and has a Kajkavian dialect. Slovene has certain linguistic characteristics and is similar to the South Slavic languages. Slovenian has a lot of similarities with other Serbo-Croatian languages. It is different from other languages spoken in the country as it has a different vocabulary, grammar, and pronunciation. Slovene has some similarities with West Slavic languages.
