Cebuano has the largest number of native speakers in the Philippines from the 1950s till the 1980s. Cebuano is spoken in many western parts of Eastern Visayas, and other parts of Palawan and Mindanao. The name Cebuano has been derived from the island of Cebu and is the original locus of the language.

This language is based on the Sorabe, Latin, and Arabic scripts. The vowels include close, mid, and open types while the verbs have three productive voice forms.
