It is now spoken in various Visayan ethnolinguistic groups. The native in Cebuanos speaks the language. It has the largest number of native speakers and is a major language of the Philippines. Cebuano has the largest number of native speakers in the Philippines from the 1950s till the 1980s. Cebuano is spoken in many western parts of Eastern Visayas, and other parts of Palawan and Mindanao. The name Cebuano has been derived from the island of Cebu and is the original locus of the language.

The Chinese language was the major language in Japan during the Heian period. The vocabulary and phonology of Old Japanese are influenced by the Chinese language. Late Middle Japanese is closer to the modern Japanese language. Japanese has a few similarities with the English language.
