About 15â20% of the population of Greenland are Danish speakers. Danish is a descendant of Old Norse and is a common language of the Germanic people who lived in Scandinavia in the Viking Era. Danish derives from the East Norse dialect group and is a Middle Norwegian language. Spoken Danish is different from Norwegian and Swedish.
